Better Days 03:51
BETTER DAYS I am not one to sing a lonely song If feelin' good is bad, well there must be somethin' wrong It doesn't have to rain just 'cause the sun don't shine If I'm all alone, well, that's just fine It's about time for you to see the light Better Days are followed by better nights I'll take my chances almost anytime Playin' it safe ain't no way of mine I've made some mistakes, and I will make some more Nobody's perfect, besides, I'm not keepin' score It's about time for you to see the light Better Days are followed by better nights It's about time for you to see the light Better Days are followed by better nights I am not one to sing a lonely song This feelin' I got always makes me strong Look for the best and you'll have just what you see Never look back, the past is all you'll see It's about time for you to see the light Better Days are followed by better nights It's about time for you to see the light Better Days are followed by better nights

SHARE YOUR HEART Tell me it's a lack of direction But variety's the spice of life When you're there it's a sign of perfection It's the gift of going left and then right Do and do it again Don't bother to count the days Round and around til the next time comes Lookin' for a way to get off Share Your Heart, Share Your Heart, with me Share Your Heart, Share Your Heart, with me Laugh, and I'm feelin' much better But the weight of it's too much to bear Well, we travelled this way all together Whatever we had we all shared Do and do it again Don't bother to count the days Round and around til the next time comes Lookin' for a way to get off Share Your Heart, Share Your Heart, with me Share Your Heart, Share Your Heart, with me Time's always movin' so fast Your future is quickly your past Enjoy every moment while it lasts While it lasts Give and you'll never be sorry Just find what you need from within Love and you won't have to worry Just as it ends it begins Do and do it again Don't bother to count the days Round and around til the next time comes Lookin' for a way to get off Share Your Heart, Share Your Heart, with me Share Your Heart, Share Your Heart, with me Share Your Heart, Share Your Heart

I DON'T KNOW WHY I don't know why, I don't know why I don't know why, I don't know why Why I still love you, after what you did to me I feel so helpless, there's times I'd rather leave Cause now you got another man I'm not blind to him, you see Woman, I just can't believe What you're doin' to me I don't know why, I don't know why I don't know why, I don't know why Do you remember, babe The very first night that we met We drank champagne and danced all night Then we slipped off into bed Wasn't it beautiful, and just a little sad Afraid of losing those precious things we had I don't know why, I don't know why I don't know why, I don't know why Well, you were my first love And you're gonna' be my last Everything before you came, just remains in my past Cause now you got a backdoor man I'm not blind to him, you see Woman, I just can't believe What you're doin' to me I don't know why, I don't know why I don't know why, I don't know why I don't know why, I don't know why I don't know why

NEVER GIVE IT UP Yesterday, I met a friend of mine I haven't seen him for a while Well, how you been, how about a drink or two We both answered with a smile I sit at home and wonder Well, is it really worth it When I give it all I've got Everything's good, yet Well there's something missing And I wonder should I stop Have you ever had something close to you That you wanted for yourself Something so good, something so sweet and gentle That you want for nothing else And how would you feel if you saw it pass on by What would you do, would you try to reason why And if it was like that every day Never Give It Up is what I'd say I'd never give it up, never give it up I'd never give it up, never give it up Never Give It Up, I don't need no answer Already got just what I need No matter what they say, no matter what they do I don't listen nobody You never give up something you need If only wishes could cure the pain If only dreams were real, that'd be a change And if all of this remains the same Never Give It Up would be the answer

about

The album was recorded over a period of time when the band was in its prime in those halcyon and heady days (1975-1979).

HISTORY OF THE N.Y.C AUGUST ROCK BAND

It started in 1973 with the chance meeting of two local musicians in an Eastside saloon called “Friends”: Mike Ward played guitar & piano, Ray Karl played bass. A few drinks & one long jam session sealed the idea of playing together. Soon after, their friend Joseph (Joe Ben) Bennardello told them he knew of a pretty good guitar player who was looking for something new. Enter H.D. Seupel. As it turned out, “pretty good” was a vast understatement...H.D. could flat out play! A number of drummers had to be carried offstage, exhausted, before Paul Gellen provided the skilful rock/funk back-beat that would drive the band’s sound. Singers came and went, too, until Tom Mooney showed up with the high-energy rock & roll voice that could handle the band’s diverse repertoire.

The band toured the Northeast, playing the college circuit and anywhere from ski resorts to beach resorts, all the while honing their sound and refining their repertoire. Managed by Steve Harris (ex v.p. of Elektra Records, instrumental in signing The Doors) and Ted Feigin (who discovered The Turtles and co-founded the White Whale record label), The NYC August Rock Band began to make their mark, opening for Blondie, Little River Band, Another Pretty Face, and The James Cotton Blues Band. They shared top billing with fabled blues man Robert Ross and the Dicey-Ross Band, Robert Gordon’s band, and the great Mink DeVille. They soon became a headline act on their own, playing to packed houses at all the legendary NYC venues of the time, including Max’s Kansas City, CBGB’s, The Ritz, The Bottom Line, Mudd Club, Trax and Dr. Generosity’s.

The band’s popularity and reputation led to a series of recording contracts. Produced by the great Terry Minogue and championed by New York radio’s premiere morning DJ, Jim Kerr (currently heard on Q104.3 FM in NYC), The NYC August Rock Band recorded and performed for the better part of a decade.

Now, journey back in time with the LosTraxx Time Machine to the most vibrant, creative and diverse period in New York’s musical history. We present “Better Days”, the first collection of lost recordings by The NYC August Rock Band. We hope you enjoy the trip.
